TedQual renews Certification of the Externado Tourism and Hotel Business Administration Faculty

The highlighted Faculty’s strengths include a strong academic proposal with a top-level reputation in the country within the tourism industry, the pedagogical model, and student exchanges, among others.

For the fourth consecutive time, the Tourism and Hotel Business Administration Faculty renewed the TedQual International Certification awarded by the UN World Tourism Organization Themis Foundation.  The Certification for the Faculty’s Tourism Education program was renewed for four years, the maximum awarded to the programs which, on a voluntary basis, apply for certification.

It is worth noting that in comparison with the certification obtained in 2014, there was an improvement in the compliance with the standards required by Themis; the percentage went from 86% to 93%.

Strengths highlighted throughout the audit process were a strong academic proposal with a top-level reputation in the country within the tourism industry; the pedagogical model which applies a very participative methodology for curriculum redesign. Also noted were the agreements for exchanges of students and scholars, and professional practice; the strong ties with research networks such as the Colombia Sustainable Tourism, UNITWIN of UNESCO, UNWTO management knowledge, and the Pan American Confederation of Hospitality and Tourism Industries, among others.

“The certification system takes into consideration five areas of analysis that evaluate internal and external aspects of the program: plan of studies coherence; infrastructure and pedagogical support; policies, tools and support mechanisms for administrative management; existence of transparent mechanisms for selection of the teaching staff and favorable conditions for their professional development; and relevance of the study program content relating to the needs of the tourism sector,” states de document.
