Daniel Raisbeck, historian, and director of the La Gran Colombia University Center for Innovation and Leadership, will analyze the negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union, the results, and the difficulties encountered in the process for the island to resume the possibility of eliminating tariffs and trade freely with the rest of the world.
The Externado Economic Law Department is the event organizer.
Viewed in retrospect, the brilliant possibilities of the Brexit independent commercial policy evaporated just nine days after the June 23, 2016 referendum, when over 17 million British citizens voted to withdraw their country from the European Union.
The unexpected poll results were followed by the immediate resignation of the then Prime Minister, David Cameron, who called the referendum but led the campaign to stay in the EU. Since then, the Government of Theresa May has negotiated the Brexit terms in detriment to Great Britain, stated our guest lecturer. In particular, issues relating to the border between Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, and the independent Republic of Ireland, has worked as a strategic negotiation factor by the European Union to reach agreements with the United Kingdom.
