Screen printing on a Misak woman's rebozo
200 x 150 cm
A naked female body is printed on the shawl traditionally worn by Misak women, dancing with blindfolded eyes. Morales distances herself from exoticism, challenges the static practices of her own culture, and proposes a shift in the paradigms of indigenous community representation. The powerful figure, set against a magenta background, invites reflection on Articles 7 and 246 of the Constitution which, although recognising the authority and ethnic diversity of ancestral peoples within their territories, reveal multiple unmet needs in education, healthcare, social security, and nutrition in reality.
