Chocó H2O from the Venas de Oro Project
Gallery 3. Territory
Estefanía García
2018
100×100 cm
This cartography of the gold route in Chocó is composed of platinum-group metals and black magnetite extracted by the artist from the region. At the centre lies the intersection of the Quito and Atrato rivers, marked by a military base indicated with a Chocó gold ring of three tomines featuring a map of Colombia. García depicts mining activity in the region and its effects on the environment, cultural traditions, and the quality of life of local communities. The work challenges Articles 332 and 360 of the Constitution, which establish State ownership of non-renewable natural resources and regulate their economic exploitation.
