In a classroom painted light blue and cream, four wooden desks hang suspended from the ceiling. Although all seats are suspended awkwardly in mid-air, the highest chair serves as a metaphor for the accessibility challenges in education. The work confronts the inequity faced by some children with physical and mental disabilities, whose needs are unmet by teaching methods that do not adapt to their conditions. Jaramillo challenges us to consider Article 47 of the Constitution, which mandates the creation of policies for prevention, rehabilitation, and social integration for persons with disabilities who face various barriers to full and effective participation in society.
