“We have to reduce corruption to its proper proportions. Julio César Turbay.” This is one of thirty-five pyroengraved wooden pieces featuring phrases publicly uttered by presidents and politicians in interviews, debates, speeches, and articles, illustrating the ruling class’s relationship with various corruption cases. The work challenges the normalisation of these acts as inherent to political conduct, questioning not only the speakers but also the society that enables their actions. The simplicity of the piece’s presentation and the forcefulness of its critique invite reflection on whether the broad participation and control mechanisms established in Articles 103 and 135 of the Political Constitution are sufficient.
