On this wooden and metal desk, a realistic portrait of María Cecilia Vélez, Minister of Education during Álvaro Uribe Vélez’s administration, is drawn on the seat with pen ink. On the desktop appears a text about the “Educational Revolution,” the government programme aimed at strengthening technical labour over knowledge generation. This work is part of Humberto Junca’s series titled “Furniture of Poor Education,” which presents a critical view of the State and its public policies. These desks invite reflection on the shortcomings of the Colombian education system and raise questions about the right to education enshrined in article 67 of the Constitution.
