Work 59
Gallery 4. Democracy

The work depicts, through varied stripes of colour and size, the fifty-five Legislative Acts that have amended, added to, or repealed parts of the Constitution between 1992 and 2021. It begins with the modification approved during Cesar Gaviria’s presidential term and concludes with initiatives processed under Iván Duque’s government. Prominently featured in dark blue, red, green, yellow, pink, and light blue are structural changes relating to extradition and the penal system, autonomy of territorial entities, centralisation of public finances, political reform, and the party system. The artist creates a kind of patchwork quilt to challenge the use of Article 375 of the Constitution, which in some cases is unnecessary or merely circumstantial.
