The destitution and social degradation endured by persons with disabilities has become a normalised part of the urban landscape. As a society, we have accepted inhumane practices such as the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. This work confronts such normalisation through an extreme gesture: the artist steps over his own image and covers a disabled person—who cannot free themselves—with a box. Far from nullifying the issue, Annulment Exercise exposes our societal failure and emphasises the importance of Article 47 of the Constitution, which obliges the State to implement policies for the social integration and rehabilitation of this population.
