Data Science, the new undergraduate program at Universidad Externado de Colombia
This September 15, the rector, Hernando Parra Nieto, and the Department of Mathematics, will officially present the Data Science program that will be offered by the Universidad Externado de Colombia from the first semester of 2022.
Our University, aware of the demand of the global labor market in which big decisions increasingly depend on data and its analysis, designed this academic program to train professionals capable of managing massive volumes of information, automatically extract patterns and inferences that are probabilistically consistent with the data, design models to make predictions and make effective use of artificial intelligence tools such as Machine Learning.
The Data Science program is looking for young people who want to transform the world through the use of technology, the development and application of mathematics and programming; who are analytical and creative problem solvers; who believe in the importance of data for decision making; and who want to be an active part of the digital transformation.
Data science is forward-looking because it responds to the growing need to use evidence for decision making in all areas of society. These trends mean that the world urgently needs data scientists capable of handling large amounts of data; using the latest statistical and computational advances to analyze these data; drawing conclusions that are useful for decision making in public and private organizations; measuring the quality of information collected; among other activities.
The official presentation of the program will be held on September 15, at 10:00 a.m. in the Building I Auditorium.
