Conference – Extraterritorial application of the European Data Protection Regulation

"Impact of the GDPR extraterritorial scope regarding data protection in Colombia, its consistency with the national regime, and the current state of the debate," is the name of the Conference organized by the Telecommunications Law Department.
The Conference, offered by attorney Andrés Fernández de Castro, is held within the “Information and Communications Technologies Conference Cycle,” which has the goal to discuss the different projects, rulings, and initiatives developed in the sector.
The guest expert will analyze the extraterritorial application of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), its possible effects in Colombia based on its comparison with the local regulation, as well as the current debate on legislative reforms aimed at establishing schemes with extraterritorial extensions, and the impact this would have for those responsible and in charge of data processing.
Andrés Fernández de Castro is an Externado de Colombia University Law graduate, with specializations in Financial Law and Commercial Law from the Universidad de los Andes. He pursued Master’s studies in Media Law (LLM in Media Law) at Queen Mary University of London, under a Chevening scholarship of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom. There, he also completed courses in Telecommunications Law, European Regime Data Protection, and Information Security Regulation.
His field of practice focuses on Telecommunications Law, protection of personal data, and technology.
