“We must find an opportunity to overcome adversity”: Hernando Parra Nieto
On August 17 and 24, academic meetings were held to bid farewell to the fifth-year students of the School of Law, with the participation of the University President, Hernando Parra Nieto; the Secretary General, José Fernando Rubio; the Dean, Adriana Zapata; and the professors invited by the graduates.
The President of our House of Studies, Hernando Parra Nieto, invited the students to continue their training process, to work for themselves and to represent the Universidad Externado de Colombia before the country. He also recognized them for having completed their studies in the midst of such a complex moment as the pandemic has been: “This will strengthen you, it will make you better human beings and better lawyers, because you had the opportunity to return to yourselves (…) We must also find an opportunity to overcome adversity”.
Parra Nieto recommended the students to embrace the principles; the values; the Externadista ethics of integrity, transparency, work and struggle, in the difficult moments that arise, and wished them a life full of challenges and hurdles, so that they can overcome them, because it is precisely the adversities, difficulties and work, which make the human being.
Finally, the President invited graduates to work for Colombia: “With our individual conduct we can do a lot, with our simple contribution we can take the first step for great transformations, to improve the living conditions of our fellow citizens. Let us ask ourselves what we can do for the country, what we can do for each other and what we can do so that this moment, which has been so difficult, is left behind”.
In each event, words of recognition, gratitude to their House of Studies on the part of the students, joy for the reunion, nostalgia for the years lived, pride in being Externadistas and reaffirming the commitment to carry the name of the University held high.
For the Universidad Externado de Colombia, and in particular the School of Law, it was a pleasure to meet again with our graduates of the 2019 – 2020 and 2020 – 2021 graduating classes.
From the Externado we wish you success in your future projects, and we remind all of you that this will always be your House of Studies.
