The Cultural Decanatura at the IX Bogotá University Poetry Encounter – 2017
At the poetry encounter, held at the capital’s National Park, the Coordinator of our Cultural Decanatura opened the afternoon poetry readings.
The Cultural Decanatura and the “Un libro por centavos” Collection participated, from the District Arts Institute (IDARTES) platform, in the “Reading under the trees” event, held within the framework of the IX Bogotá University Poetry Conference – 2017. The cultural event was held September 22-29, 2017, featuring different activities at several venues in the city.
On a cold, rainy, morning before an enthused audience, Clara Mercedes Arango, Externado Cultural Decanatura Coordinator, initiated the afternoon poetry readings, inviting attendees to observe a minute of silence in honor of the five Technological Institute of Monterrey students who died as a result of the September 19, 2017, earthquake in Mexico. The audience grew as the rain stopped. The Coordinator narrated the history of the Un libro por centavos collection and the University’s commitment to the dissemination of poetry at national and international levels, which it has been carrying out for over 14 consecutive years.
Clara Arango read several poems of her creation. During the afternoon session, other poets of the collection such as Henry Alexander Gómez, and Santiago Espinosa joined in, and attendees were able to share in the reading aloud with their complimentary poetry books.
