In response to current needs, the Externado de Colombia University, in collaboration with MiríadaX, has increased the frequency of the different editions of its Massive Open Online Courses – MOOCs.

The following MOOCs are available in April and early May:

· Fourth edition of the Journalism in Magical Realism Course (Social Communication – Journalism Faculty

· Third edition of the Teachers Who Teach, Teachers Who Learn Course (Education Sciences Faculty)

· Fourth edition of the Criminal Abolitionism Course (Law Faculty, Criminal Policy Research Center).

In their previous versions, these courses attained the following number of enrollees: Journalism in Magic Realism (508), Teachers Who Teach, Teachers Who Learn (1049), and Criminal Abolitionism (388). Below is all the information on the courses, as well as the registration links for each. We invite you to add them to your schedule.

Journalism in Magical Realism (4th edition)

Language: Spanish. Registration opens April 13, 2020. Course starting date: April 20, 2020. Course duration: 4 weeks. Previous knowledge required: None.

Description: In this course, you will learn about the relationship between journalism and literature, built by the most significant representative of Latin American magical realism, and one of the most prolific reporters and columnists of all times – Gabriel García Márquez. You will learn about his worldwide influence on the journalistic profession, not only for the transcendence of his character, his technique, and his example but also for the creation of journalistic enterprises and the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation for the New Ibero-American Journalism (FNPI), with global impact.

Teachers Who Teach, Teachers Who Learn (3rd edition)

Language: Spanish. Registration opens April 13, 2020. Course starting date: April 20, 2020. Course duration: 4 weeks. Previous knowledge required: None.

Description: From their experience in the classroom and pedagogical practice, four Externado de Colombia Education Sciences Faculty professors want to share, with those taking this course, some advice and reflections on what is involved in being a better teacher. This course is a practical guide to improving classroom teaching processes and reflecting on the educator’s work.

Criminal Abolitionism (4th edition)

Language: Spanish. Registration opens April 13, 2020. Course starting date: May 4, 2020. Course duration: 6 weeks. Previous knowledge required: None.

Description: This course will focus on prison, considering it is the most widely used penalty in these times. First, the concepts and principles of Abolitionism will be addressed; then, its origin will be studied, taking us to the history of prison and criticism of the criminal policy from social, economic, and political perspectives.
